TGF Bird Outing at Wilmore Gardens

   March 26, 2011

For many years now, TGF has been invited to participate at Wilmore Gardens’ spring events, http://www.wilmorenurseries.com/  It’s always a beautiful kick off to spring and the scent of flowers, a warm, humid sunlight greenhouse, joyous spring colors and the promise of new plants, trees, bushes, everything garden plus more make for a truly lovely day.

Volunteers Patty Snow (March Volunteer of the Month) and long time volunteer Andrea Frederick along with Julie Murad chaperoned the outreach flock at Wilmore. In attendance were Emory, a Grey who is with us in sanctuary, Goober, a16 y.o. male who is one of the Hyacinth gang, Chicken, a 20 y.o. male Umbrella cockatoo who is a delight with the crowds, Coco, our female Yellow naped Amazon who never fails to bring a smile with her “Hi Sweetie”, sanctuary residents Monet (12 y.o. female Camelot macaw) and her best birdfriend, Tillie, a 10 y,o, Military macaw, both of whom came to us from the same relinquisher. Finally, Harper the male 4 y.o. Alexandrine parakeet who lives with Andrea made up today’s meet and greet. All were a real hit with everyone of any age.

John Vincent and his Thunderbirds Show, http://tophogs.com/  gave a wonderful performance featuring a real celebirdy, Panji the Eleonora cockatoo that John adopted from TGF nearly 10 years ago. Panji, Toots (Double yellow headed Amazon) and Red Tail, John’s Grey kept the crowd enchanted with their skills that demonstrate how successful positive reinforcement training can be and what wonderful results are returned. PS, the other cockatoo in the Thunderbirds YouTube video is Salty, another TGF alumni. For a fun viewing treat for the animal lovers and kids (and those at heart) we suggest that you purchase John’s Animal Tales DVD. Your flock will enjoy it too. Available through Top Hogs or at www.thebirdbrain.com.
