WAYS YOU CAN HELP

VOLUNTEER

If you would like to volunteer your time, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Gaye Thomasson, at volunteers@thegabrielfoundation.org or (303)629-5900 ext. 235. Gaye is volunteering her time and there may be a delay in responding. If you need immediate assistance, call Charise Mixa at (303)629-5900 ext. 213.

We welcome the interested public, rescue, sanctuary, welfare organizations, veterinarians and members to participate in hands-on care of the aviary and the birds. TGF willingly provides its materials to interested volunteers to distribute appropriately in their local area. The Foundation developed a volunteer training manual for training, teaching, educational and safety purposes. The aviary hosts family fun, on-site volunteer work weekends and picnic lunches at the aviary quarterly throughout the year.

MEET OUR VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH!

For  over two years, Robert Thomasson has been sharing his myriad of talents and skills  as a volunteer at the Aviary in Elizabeth, CO.  Robert has answered the call every holiday morning for volunteer help as well as showing up for Volunteer Work Days, bringing his potpourri of tools to assemble toys, repair flights, build shelves, etc.  He is always willing to take a road trip to find the right supplies for the job, whether it’s illusive stainless steel hardware and pvc pipe for over 300 bird toys,  a chop saw for the Aviary, equipment for the pigeon coop, or seven pallets of free wood for future parrot destruction!

Robert was one of three volunteers who assisted Julie Murad in transporting the 42 parrots from Pueblo to Denver in January, 2010.  He is the creator and producer of the two touching TGF dvds about the Pueblo flock, “The Pueblo Rescue” and “Recognizing Generosity” which helped to bring worldwide awareness to the parrots’ plight along with  generating financial support when it was so desperately needed. He is currently working on a video honoring TGF volunteers!

When he is asked to help, Robert will step into potentially unknown territory, and research and study until he can produce substantial and reliable results. He strongly believes in the concept of ‘giving back’ and says that there is no cause more noble or rewarding than helping the birds at The Gabriel Foundation. Thank you, Robert, for all that you do.

A retired educator, Robert lives with his wife, Gaye, their two dogs, six parrots, and one very spoiled barn cat.
