Total Bird Health Seminar Part II: Avian Medical Care and Emergency Preparedness
TGF Aviary & Adoption Center

Lecture on basic anatomy and physiology of birds, viral diseases of psittacines, signs of disease processes.
When to take your bird to the vet, how to find a good avian vet, providing first aid/emergency care at home prior to transport.
Demonstration and practice of safely toweling birds, restraint for exam, emergency care you can provide at home.
Students will be able to purchase items to assemble an at home first aid kit for birds and we will assemble in class.
Lunch will be served. Limit 15 participants.

Clean flights, restock flights, grounds maintenance, clean landscaping. Bring wheelbarrows (or wagons), work gloves, rakes, shovels, tools, hat!
Power tools needed: chain saw, table saw, screwdrivers, drills.

Total Bird Health Seminar Part III: Caging, Husbandry, Household Hazards and Grooming
TGF Aviary & Adoption Center

Lecture on species differences (characteristics of species), safe cages, appropriate cage sizes for various species, perches, cleaning and disinfecting. Discussion on common household hazards and toxins. Demonstration on play areas and play stands that encourage activity. Demonstration on proper grooming - feather trims, nail trims and when to do beak trims.
Lunch will be served. Limit 15 participants.

Total Bird Health Seminar Part IV: Toy Making and Enrichment Ideas for Your Bird

Toy making workshop with Deb White, Creator of Superbird Creations, Inc., The Dancing Parrot and Avian Enrichment.
Learn from a seasoned pro!
Lecture on choosing safe materials, what makes a toy design safe or unsafe and where to find safe materials. Discussion about the importance of enrichment. Demonstration on foraging and enrichment using items easily found at home, how to set up an enriched cage and create an environment that is fun and stimulating. Workshop: create toys for your own bird(s) using safe, fun materials provided. You will be able to take home 1-3 toys with you (depending on the size of your bird).
